New Beginnings!!!

NEW BEGINNINGS FOR YOU! Well, here we are walking in a NEW year. Most of us have gone out and purchased new calendars, new diaries, maybe even new shoes (smile)! As we walk into this NEW year, we must remember that we too must walk in the NEW. A new mindset, a new focus, a new unrelenting determination towards our goals.

Goals are those desires to obtain something in life that we have been dreaming about.

Sometimes goals may seem so far away, but just like a “road trip” you need to gas up (prepare), get on the road (take action), drive forward (focus), and stay in your lane (avoid distractions). This NEW mindset is going to shape the course of your year. You can bring in the residue of 2020 or you can create your 2021. It’s up to you…. Now, moving towards your goals doesn’t mean you ignore the challenges that 2020 may have created. It means you acknowledge them, maybe even slow down and work through them, but then you return to your normal speed of action towards your goals. Notice I didn’t say PULL OFF THE ROAD AND STOP! Why, because pulling over is familiar and we get comfortable in the STOP!

In this NEW BEGINNING, you are going to have to be determined (despite your natural senses) to SEE, HEAR and SPEAK differently. As the nation senses unemployment, economic collapse and business closures, you are going to have to sense NEW OPPORTUNITIES! You are going to have to “go against the grain” and SPEAK differently. GOAL SETTERS have a different language and know the importance of the tongue... Proverbs 18:21 says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.” (AMP) Let this verse be a reminder of the importance of SPEAKING life into our goals and not death.

As you step on the gas and zoom into NEW BEGINNINGS, you must have an unrelenting determination to FOCUS forward! Despite what’s going on in the other lanes (the pandemic, the economy, the family drama) push yourself to keep moving FORWARD on the road ahead because nothing moves (including you) when you FACE behind you.

(Tip: Also make sure the passenger is watching out for other cars that may try to swerve in your lane – Accountability Partner) As you travel towards your goals, no matter what it costs, STAY ON THE ROAD and follow the MAP (write down your goals and view them)!

I would be doing you a disservice if I said moving towards your goals will not cost you something. IT WILL COST YOU EVERYTHING!

So, I leave you with this question. Will you continue to live with your goals burning inside of you, or will you die empty? The choice is yours...

Until we zoom again, Michelle Davey, MSW, LCSW-C
