THE LAST QUARTER . . .

It’s 1998, the final two teams in the NBA Playoffs are in the last quarter of the game with the Chicago Bulls down by 1 point. The fans are holding their breath as Jordan hurries across the court with seconds left on the shot clock. He's focused on the basket as he bends his knees, leaps, and takes the shot. The crowd goes wild as the ball spins in the air and lands in the basket. The buzzer sounds and the Bulls have won the Playoff!!

Well, here you are, approaching the last quarter of 2021 . . . everyone around you is holding their breath waiting to see what you’re going to do. You’ve survived the first three quarters (the pandemic, the shutdowns, the struggling economy and even social distancing). The shot clock is ticking . . . there is 90 days left before the buzzer sounds. Are you going to continue to play it safe (live a life of complacency), or will you take the shot (register for classes, schedule the appointment, make that phone call, view the house, start the business, write the blog, publish the book, go on that date). I know what you’re thinking, 90 days isn’t enough time to get it done. Maybe not, but it is enough time to take the shot that can get it STARTED.

You have a choice to make. You can stand there on the basketball court and debate with your next move (I don't know how it's gonna work out, it's beyond my reach, maybe I'll just try to make it next year) OR you can leap towards the basket (your goal) and take the shot. But you must remember . . . the clock is ticking and time is running out!

And yes, it’s scary and your nerves are going to be all over the place. You know what else is scary. . . the buzzer sounding before you even TRY to take a shot. 2022, if we are blessed to see it, will look like the decisions that we made in 2021. So, if we decided to play it safe, it will be another year of us sitting on the sidelines (living an unfulfilled life), watching everyone else take their shot. But if 2021 was the year we decided to bend our knees, leap and take the shot, then 2022 will be the beginning of us walking in our destiny.

The clock is ticking, what will your last quarter of 2021 look like? Until we Blog again, Michelle Davey, MSW, LCSW-C Licensed Clinical Social Worker Founder of Our Wings of Hope, LLC
